The first complete paint job to come out of the Drunk Monkey Garage Paint Shop. Pacman combined his talents with unconventional techniques to create unique and stunning paint job that won the Outstanding Paint at the first show we entered it in.
The Breakout had a factory Vivid Black paint job that was in fair condition.
The first step was to carefully tear down the bike and catalog all parts.
Once the fuel tank, oil tank and fenders were removed, they were sanded with 600 grit sandpaper. Since the factory clear coat was still in good shape, a good sanding was all that was needed to prep the panels for the new black base coat.
A new black base coat was applied in preparation for the silver metal flake and crystal effects.
Once the new base coat was cured it was scuffed with a grey scuff pad to prep it for a coat of silver metal flake mixed with clear coat. Everything that would remain black was taped off. We went with a classic chopper panel design for the graphics layout.
3 coats of silver metal flake was applied followed by 3 coats of 2k clearcoat.
Once the 2k clear was cured, everything was sanded with 800, 1200, 1500 grit sandpapers progressively until smooth. After this step is where the magic began.
At this point, a special solution of fertilizer and water was applied. Once dry, it leaves a salty crystal that acts as a mask for the next layer of paint.
More black base coat was sprayed over the dried fertilizer solution to create desire effect. Once dry, the panels were scuffed with a wet grey scuff pad to reveal the pattern.
More graphics were airbrushed in to enhance the design.
After a few more coats of clear and lot of sanding and polishing, the result was an award winning paint job.
